Used For

  • Prevention of stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation (AFib) (irregular heartbeat)
  • Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) after surgeries (hip/knee replacement)
  • Treatment of DVT and PE

Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Bleeding (nosebleeds, gum bleeding, heavy periods)
  • Easy bruising
  • Nausea
  • Weakness or dizziness

Serious side effects (rare):

  • Severe bleeding (blood in urine, black/tarry stools, vomiting blood)
  • Allergic reactions (rash, swelling, breathing difficulties)
  • Liver problems (yellowing of skin/eyes, dark urine)

Precautions
