Used For

  • Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD)
  • Healing of stomach and duodenal ulcers
  • Prevention of ulcers caused by NSAIDs (painkillers)
  • Treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (excess stomach acid production)
  • H. pylori eradication therapy (in combination with antibiotics)

Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Stomach pain
  • Dry mouth

Serious side effects (rare):

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, swelling, difficulty breathing)
  • Low magnesium levels (causing muscle cramps, irregular heartbeat)
