Product Description
Product Name: Amtas Tablets 10mg/40mg
Product Form: Tablets
Pack Size: 14's
Manufactured By: Getz Pharma
Used For:
- Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Used in patients requiring dual therapy for blood pressure control, helping to lower the risk of complications such as heart attack, stroke, and kidney disease.
- Patients with High Cardiovascular Risk: This combination is beneficial for patients with coexisting cardiovascular risk factors, as both drugs help protect the heart and blood vessels.
Side Effects:
-
Common Side Effects:
- Amlodipine: Swelling of the legs or ankles (peripheral edema), dizziness, flushing, headache, and fatigue.
- Telmisartan: Dizziness, fatigue, upper respiratory infections, and occasionally elevated potassium levels (hyperkalemia).
-
Less Common but Serious Side Effects:
- Amlodipine: Hypotension (low blood pressure), palpitations, and rarely, worsening chest pain (if angina is present).
- Telmisartan: Kidney dysfunction, high potassium levels (hyperkalemia), and, though rare, angioedema (a severe allergic reaction causing swelling).
Precautions:
- Monitoring Kidney Function and Electrolytes: Especially important when using telmisartan, as it may impact potassium levels and kidney function.
- Pregnancy: Telmisartan is contraindicated in pregnancy due to risks of fetal toxicity. Amlodipine is also generally avoided unless absolutely necessary and closely monitored.
- Avoid Grapefruit Juice: Grapefruit can increase amlodipine levels in the blood, leading to an elevated risk of side effects.
- Hydration: Proper hydration is essential, as dehydration can increase the risk of low blood pressure, particularly when moving from sitting to standing (postural hypotension).
- Drug Interactions: Caution when combining with other medications that affect blood pressure or potassium levels, like potassium supplements and NSAIDs, as these may increase the risk of adverse effects.
