Product Description

Product Name: Amphonex Injection 50mg

Product Form: Injection

Pack Size: 1's

Manufactured By: BSV Limited

Used For:

  • Treatment of severe fungal infections, including:
    • Systemic mycoses (e.g., candidiasis, aspergillosis, cryptococcosis)
    • Fungal infections in immunocompromised patients (e.g., those with HIV/AIDS or undergoing chemotherapy)
    • Invasive fungal infections affecting organs such as the lungs, kidneys, and brain
    • Meningitis caused by fungi

Side Effects:

  • Fever, chills, or rigors during infusion (though less severe than with conventional Amphotericin B)
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Electrolyte imbalances (e.g., low potassium, magnesium)
  • Liver toxicity or elevated liver enzymes
  • Anemia or low red blood cell count
  • Rarely, allergic reactions like rash or difficulty breathing

Precautions:

  • Liposomal Amphotericin B is generally less nephrotoxic (kidney damage) than conventional Amphotericin B but still requires close monitoring of kidney function and electrolyte levels during treatment.
  • Should be administered in a hospital setting where the patient can be monitored for adverse reactions.
  • Use cautiously in patients with pre-existing kidney disease, liver impairment, or electrolyte disturbances.
  • Hydration is often recommended before and during treatment to minimize kidney damage.
  • Not recommended during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks.
  • Avoid concurrent use with nephrotoxic agents unless absolutely necessary, as interactions could increase the risk of kidney damage.
  • Monitor for infusion-related reactions, although these are generally milder than with the non-liposomal form.
