Used For:
- Treatment of severe fungal infections, including:

- Invasive fungal infections affecting organs such as the lungs, kidneys, and brain

Side Effects:
- Fever, chills, or rigors during infusion (though less severe than with conventional Amphotericin B)

- Abdominal pain
- Headache
- Fatigue
- Electrolyte imbalances (e.g., low potassium, magnesium)
- Liver toxicity or elevated liver enzymes
- Anemia or low red blood cell count
- Rarely, allergic reactions like rash or difficulty breathing
Precautions:
- Liposomal Amphotericin B is generally less nephrotoxic (kidney damage) than conventional Amphotericin B but still requires close monitoring of kidney function and electrolyte levels during treatment.
- Should be administered in a hospital setting where the patient can be monitored for adverse reactions.
- Use cautiously in patients with pre-existing kidney disease, liver impairment, or electrolyte disturbances.
- Hydration is often recommended before and during treatment to minimize kidney damage.
- Not recommended during pregnancy unless the benefits outweigh the risks.
- Avoid concurrent use with nephrotoxic agents unless absolutely necessary, as interactions could increase the risk of kidney damage.
- Monitor for infusion-related reactions, although these are generally milder than with the non-liposomal form.
