Product Description

Product Name: Alzagan Eye Drops 5ml

Product Form: Drops

Pack Size: 5ml

Manufactured By: Alza Pharmaceuticals

Used For:

Alzagan Eye Drops contain brimonidine tartrate, a medication primarily used in ophthalmology to treat:

  • Open-angle glaucoma: It helps lower intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients with glaucoma, reducing the risk of damage to the optic nerve and preventing vision loss.
  • Ocular hypertension: Used to decrease elevated eye pressure in patients with increased intraocular pressure but no signs of glaucoma.

It works by reducing the production of aqueous humor (fluid in the eye) and increasing its drainage, which lowers the eye pressure.

Side Effects:

Common side effects associated with brimonidine tartrate eye drops include:

  • Eye redness or irritation
  • Burning or stinging sensation in the eyes
  • Dry eyes
  • Blurred vision or sensitivity to light
  • Headache
  • Fatigue or drowsiness
  • Dry mouth

Less common but serious side effects may include:

  • Allergic reactions: Swelling, itching, or redness of the eyelids and surrounding skin.
  • Heart and circulatory problems: Decreased heart rate or low blood pressure, particularly in people with pre-existing cardiovascular conditions.
  • Severe eye irritation: Intense discomfort or worsening redness.

Precautions:

  • Cardiovascular Conditions: Patients with heart disease, low blood pressure, or a history of stroke should use Alzagan with caution, as brimonidine can affect blood pressure and heart rate.
  • Depression: In rare cases, it may exacerbate symptoms of depression in susceptible individuals.
  • Children: It is not recommended for children under 2 years of age due to the risk of severe side effects such as drowsiness and lowered alertness.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: The safety of brimonidine during pregnancy and breastfeeding is not well established, so it should be used only if clearly needed and under medical supervision.
  • Drug Interactions: Brimonidine may interact with central nervous system depressants, beta-blockers, and other medications that lower blood pressure. Always inform your healthcare provider of all medications you are taking.
