Used For:

• Malignant hyperthermia: A rare but serious reaction to certain anesthetics, causing a rapid increase in body temperature, muscle rigidity, and organ dysfunction.
• Muscle spasticity: A condition where muscles become stiff and tight, which can occur due to neurological conditions like stroke or multiple sclerosis.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include:

• Drowsiness or dizziness
• Weakness or muscle fatigue
• Nausea or vomiting
• Diarrhea
• Liver toxicity: This can cause yellowing of the skin/eyes (jaundice), dark urine, or pain in the upper abdomen.
• Respiratory depression (in severe cases)
• Confusion, dizziness, or mental changes
• Injection site reactions: Pain, redness, or swelling at the site of injection.

Precautions:

• Liver function: Dantrolene can affect liver function, so liver tests may be required before starting the treatment, and periodic monitoring should continue.
