Used For:

Abiraterone is primarily used to treat advanced prostate cancer (specifically metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer). It works by inhibiting the production of androgens (male hormones) that can promote prostate cancer growth.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include:

  • Fatigue
  • High blood pressure (hypertension)
  • Low blood potassium levels (hypokalemia)
  • Fluid retention (edema)
  • Hot flashes
  • Joint pain
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Elevated liver enzymes
  • Nausea

Rare but serious side effects:

  • Adrenal insufficiency (symptoms like dizziness, nausea, and low blood pressure)

Precautions:

  1. Pre-existing Conditions:
