Used For:

  • Travelers' Diarrhea: Effective in treating diarrhea caused by non-invasive strains of E. coli.
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome with Diarrhea (IBS-D): Helps manage symptoms of IBS, including diarrhea and abdominal discomfort.
  • Hepatic Encephalopathy: Used to reduce the risk of recurrence of hepatic encephalopathy in patients with liver disease. It decreases ammonia-producing bacteria in the gut.
  • Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO): Sometimes used off-label to treat SIBO by reducing excessive bacterial growth in the small intestine.

Side Effects:

  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Abdominal pain or discomfort
  • Flatulence (gas)
  • Headache
  • Dizziness
  • Rarely, severe allergic reactions (rash, itching, swelling)

Precautions:
