Used For:

  • Neuropathic Pain: Pregabalin is prescribed for pain due to nerve damage, often resulting from diabetes (diabetic neuropathy), spinal cord injury, or shingles (postherpetic neuralgia).
  • Fibromyalgia: It helps reduce widespread pain and discomfort associated with fibromyalgia.
  • Epilepsy: Used as an add-on therapy for partial seizures, it helps reduce seizure frequency in adults.
  • Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Pregabalin is sometimes prescribed to relieve symptoms of GAD, especially when other medications are not fully effective.

Side Effects:

  • Common Side Effects: These include dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, blurred vision, weight gain, and peripheral edema (swelling in the limbs).
  • Serious Side Effects: Although rare, pregabalin can lead to severe allergic reactions, mood changes, depression, and in some cases, suicidal thoughts.

Precautions:

  • Sedation: Pregabalin may cause drowsiness and dizziness; it’s advisable not to drive or operate heavy machinery until you understand how it affects you.
