Used For:
- Growth Disorders in Children: Somatropin is commonly prescribed for children with growth hormone deficiency (GHD), Turner syndrome, Prader-Willi syndrome, chronic kidney disease, or children born small for gestational age who have not caught up in growth.
- Adult Growth Hormone Deficiency: In adults, somatropin is used to treat GHD, which can result from pituitary gland disorders or other medical conditions, helping to increase muscle mass, reduce body fat, and improve bone density.
- HIV/AIDS Wasting and Short Bowel Syndrome: It is also prescribed for conditions that cause muscle wasting, like HIV/AIDS, or to improve nutrient absorption in short bowel syndrome.
Side Effects:
- Common Side Effects: These may include joint and muscle pain, swelling due to fluid retention (edema), headache, and numbness or tingling.
