Used For:
Moxiget Tablets (Moxifloxacin 400 mg) are prescribed for treating bacterial infections such as:
-
Respiratory Tract Infections:
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Acute bacterial sinusitis
- Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Skin and Soft Tissue Infections: Complicated bacterial infections of the skin and surrounding tissues.
- Intra-Abdominal Infections: Complicated infections within the abdominal cavity.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include:
- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Vomiting
- Abdominal pain
More serious but rare side effects:
- Tendon Rupture: Especially in older adults or those on corticosteroids.
- QT Prolongation: Can lead to abnormal heart rhythms.
- Peripheral Neuropathy: Nerve damage causing pain, tingling, or numbness in the extremities.
- Liver Toxicity: Elevated liver enzymes or jaundice.
- Severe Allergic Reactions: Rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
Precautions:
- Tendon Rupture Risk: Avoid strenuous physical activity, as fluoroquinolones can increase the risk of tendonitis or rupture. Discontinue use and consult a doctor if you experience tendon pain or swelling.
- Heart Conditions: Use with caution if you have a history of QT prolongation or other heart rhythm disorders. Regular ECG monitoring may be required.
- Liver Function: Monitor liver function in patients with pre-existing liver conditions or if symptoms of liver damage appear.
- Peripheral Neuropathy: Stop taking the medication and consult a doctor if you experience tingling, numbness, or weakness.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Not recommended unless absolutely necessary. Consult your doctor.
- Drug Interactions: Moxifloxacin may interact with medications that affect heart rhythm, such as antiarrhythmics. It can also interact with antacids or supplements containing magnesium, calcium, or aluminum, which can reduce its absorption. Avoid taking antacids or supplements within a few hours of moxifloxacin.
