Used For:

  • Treats nausea and vomiting (including from chemo or surgery)

  • Manages gastroparesis (especially in diabetics)

  • Relieves GERD symptoms not controlled by acid reducers

  • Improves gastric emptying and motility

  • Sometimes used for migraine-related nausea

Side Effects:

  • Drowsiness, fatigue

  • Diarrhea or restlessness

  • Extrapyramidal symptoms (involuntary muscle movements, especially in children or high doses)

  • Long-term use: risk of tardive dyskinesia (involuntary facial/tongue movements)

Precaution:

  • Avoid use longer than 12 weeks, unless clearly necessary

  • Use with caution in elderly and children

  • Not recommended in patients with seizures, Parkinson’s disease, or GI obstruction
