  • Treating bacterial infections, including respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, acne, and sexually transmitted infections (e.g., chlamydia)
  • Preventing malaria in high-risk areas

Side Effects:

  • Common: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, upset stomach
  • Less Common: Skin rash, photosensitivity (increased sensitivity to sunlight)
  • Rare but Serious: Severe allergic reactions, liver damage, esophageal irritation or ulcers

Precautions:

  • Take with plenty of water to reduce the risk of esophageal irritation
  • Avoid direct sunlight or tanning beds as doxycycline increases sensitivity to the sun
